Barb at Kahe Point (2)

It all started when I picked up a crayon (the blue-green one) at the age of 4 and proceeded to draw all over a blank wall in my room.  I’ve taken various paths since then and I recently reconnected with my love for painting landscapes on location.  I have a Bachelor  of Science in Tropical Agriculture from the University of Hawaii and an Associate of Science degree in Commercial Art from Honolulu Community College.  I grew up on my family’s farm and this instilled in me a strong connection to land and sea.

I have been painting under the guidance of local artist, Mark Brown, for several years now.  I’m a fan of many contemporary artists, including Kevin Macpherson and the late Ken Auster.  I especially enjoy the works of the early California impressionists and I often find inspiration from the works of Edgar Payne and William Wendt.  I’m a member of the Plein Air Painters of Hawaii, the Association of Hawaii Artists, and the Windward Artists Guild.

Whether at the beach, in the mountains, or in the heart of downtown, there is always wonderful light and life to celebrated in Hawaii.  Expressing this in my artwork is my goal, challenge, and joy.
